Charlie And Michelle

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

I second-shot an engagement shoot with Ned at Beautifoto. It was a lot of fun and particularly challenging to try to emulate another photographer. Ned has his signature style well defined and it was fun to step into his shoes for the evening. Charlie and Michelle were a great couple and really fun to shoot.

The available light portraits we did were in my usual comfort zone.

Ned wanted to make sure that I could shoot in his style and in order to give me the chance we switched spots a lot, holding lights while the other shot.

Pop

I spent some time with my Grandfather on the weekend. He’s living on his own again after a long stay in the hospital following a close call a while back. Pop’s been very positive in his later years and his new lease on life has given him an attitude on par with the Dalai Lama’s. He’s so happy to be alive that it can’t help but rub off on you after a short time with him

Pop’s every day outfit consists a pressed dress shirt, pants, a tie and suspenders. He gets out for a walk almost every day and adds the numbers on the plates of parked cars in his head to keep his brain active as he strolls. On top of everything else, Pop’s recently returned to his great love of playing snooker (for money) a few times a week. It was great to get a view into his daily routine and get a chance see how he takes care of himself. Taking these shots meant a lot to me an I’d like to take a day off soon and spend it following him around with a camera for 9 or 10 hours.
