Pop

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I spent some time with my Grandfather on the weekend. He’s living on his own again after a long stay in the hospital following a close call a while back. Pop’s been very positive in his later years and his new lease on life has given him an attitude on par with the Dalai Lama’s. He’s so happy to be alive that it can’t help but rub off on you after a short time with him

Pop’s every day outfit consists a pressed dress shirt, pants, a tie and suspenders. He gets out for a walk almost every day and adds the numbers on the plates of parked cars in his head to keep his brain active as he strolls. On top of everything else, Pop’s recently returned to his great love of playing snooker (for money) a few times a week. It was great to get a view into his daily routine and get a chance see how he takes care of himself. Taking these shots meant a lot to me an I’d like to take a day off soon and spend it following him around with a camera for 9 or 10 hours.

Brandon

I was asked to photograph Brandon and his family by his Aunt Tanya. The whole family was incredibly friendly and it was great to meet and spend a couple of hours shooting them. Here are some samples from the day:

The Devil’s Haircut

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

I had a great time taking some portrait’s of Marcus’ first haircut. Marcus’ experience was at the the other end of the spectrum, however.

The whole session was filled with moment’s both funny and cute. One of the funniest was how Marcus’ older brother seem to secretly revel in his brother’s distress (see bottom image)…

Sold a Photo Commercially

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

A major US toy company found my photograph of my nephew Alex and contacted me to license the rights to use it as the cover of their annual report. I’m really happy about the extra money and about my first ever commercial sale
